Pantyhose History

Pantyhose history can be traced back to the 1960s when wearing such garments became popular for women as skirts receded far above the knees. The term pantyhose itself is an American saying with tights being the British term. Pantyhose have gone out of fashion, mostly reserved now for the workplace, but in the past many women had enjoyed wearing pantyhose because it made their legs appear slimmer along with hiding any blemishes or veins. Pantyhose history can actually be traced way back to the 17th centuries when many ladies wore such leg garments to keep their legs warm in the form of stockings. Men also wear knee stockings and going farther far back, men have worn tights in the Middle Ages which signify that pantyhose history was not always reserved for women.

Many women from previous generations prefer pantyhose since it hides aging legs and exposed veins. Pantyhose as we know it really took off in the 1920s when skirts became shorter. Throughout pantyhose history, hose became most popular throughout the forties, so much so that women drew lines down the back of their legs during the 1940s when the war conservation effort was going on. Pantyhose throughout the decades began to wane by the early eighties. Many women feel pantyhose are uncomfortable, but throughout pantyhose history, pantyhose have been shown to reveal a classic quality whenever a woman wore them. Many young women hate pantyhose, but there are those out there who wear pantyhose for a sleeker look to their legs and also retaining a sense of classic style in their wardrobe.
